Student services and support programs

Special Education Program (SEP)

The Special Education Program (SEP) provides support to students who have been identified as having a disability. The adjustments being made to assist the student in accessing curriculum, achieving curriculum outcomes and participating in school life are recorded in an Education Adjustment Program Profile. An Individual Education Plan is also established for the student. This specifies priority goals to be achieved in a six month period.

Our Special Education staff provide a range of support:

  • Regular class plus teacher consultation
  • Regular class plus program support
  • Regular class plus in class support
  • Regular class plus in class support and small group instruction

Student Advancement Program (SAM)

The Student Advancement Program is a unique intervention based program providing students with additional support. This additional support is available to all levels of academic achievement and is funded by the school. Often it is used to extend our more abled or gifted students.

Student Advancement is designed to provide targeted and explicit teaching which addresses the specific learning needs of individuals within Everton Park State School.

Each program runs for 5 weeks, providing students with 5 X 30mins sessions of small group instruction. The teacher remains the case manager and will determine if the set goals have been achieved. This support is available to all students and it is envisaged that whilst at Everton Park State School, all students will have the opportunity to participate in the Student Advancement Program. For example, if a student is achieving an A grade, they may receive extension work; whist a student achieving a D grade will be supported with additional work to consolidate the core concepts required for future learning.

Morning Reading Club

Out Morning Reading Club is just one strategy that we use to assist students across all years to enhance their reading abilities. Selected students work with teachers and teacher aides in the library each day before school each day with reading drills and comprehension activities.  We have seen the students who regularly attend this program make some significant improvement to their reading ability. e are always seeking more volunteers to help out with our Morning Reading Club.
